13A Reading Reflection Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson

1.) A few things surprised my about Steve Jobs that I din't know, he was adopted for starters and got his hands dirty at a young age when he would work on cars with his adopted father so the building a designing mindset came to him early on. Another big one I didn't realized happened was that once he got going and was big, Jobs and Gates worked together and Microsoft programmed some apps for Mac! I loved the fact that everything that Jobs sold was "the greatest thing ever" he couldn't sell a product that wasn't. As a young man he was extremely intense and would often go on spells of being completely silent just in his own thoughts trying to make something new.
2.) Jobs was an extremely smart man. He could sell you anything with the way he would communicate to his consumers was next level stuff. Steve was also wanting to be the very best and that competitive nature helped get him over the top when it came to crunch time.
3.) I really didn't like how he let microsoft invest in Mac and try to take control over his products but I guess I understand why he did it. He was an emotional wreck over it and it ended up costing numerous people their jobs.
4.) Where do you go mentally when speaking publicly trying to over and over again tell them that this  is the greatest product on earth? Just because I'd love to pick his brain and understand his thought process and see the way he ticks when it comes to his natural selling abilities.
5.) I think Steve Jobs opinion of hard work was to make sure you do not make any mistakes and there isn't anybody better working on it than you, so continue to do a good job, I believe in you.

  1. Good evening Garrett,
I think choosing Steve Jobs for this particular assignment in this particular course is an amazing idea, I choose him as well. I’ve watched the movie about his life and done a bunch of reading of his and think its all fascinating how he went about both his personal life and business life and how he was able to be so successful.

  2. Hey Garret!

I liked reading your take on this book. I have not read it, so I don't know much about the topic. However, I liked reading that jobs and gates worked together in creating their inventions. Or making them better. I wasn't aware of that. I am glad that he left the company to pursue his dream, but it is sad that lots of people lost their jobs over it. It is also interesting that Steve jobs would keep to himself a lot, and remain silent, but in the same token be a very good business man. You normally don't find those two characteristics in the same person. Great analysis!

  3. Awesome reflection Garrett. I really feel like I got into the mind of Steve Jobs with your review. Steve Jobs is one of those mysterious genius types that no one will ever completely understand. Even though he was a very troubled person it's sad that the world has lost a great mind. I also agree with you that I would love to learn how Steve acquired the confidence to really believe in his products and be able to sell them to anyone. Once again great job Garrett! I loved how concise this book review was.
